Traditional Knife - Custom Cases

Shire Supply Company uses only the highest quality leather, sourced from a UK based tannery with over  100 years of leather production.

Every Item is made from vegetable tanned leather treated with waxes and oils to give a rugged, worn-in distressed effect but also help the help with stand the riggers of time and daily use. 

The natural grain of the leather is left intact to show all the small marks and blemishes, giving each item a unique patina and character which will improve with use.

XS – up to 3″ (7.6 cm)

Typical knife dimensions: around 75 × 20 × 11 mm (2.95 × 0.79 × 0.43 in).

Perfect for the smallest traditional folders such as the Case Peanut, Buck 525 Gent, or Rough Ryder Mini. These are slim, pocket-friendly knives that almost disappear when carried.

S – up to 3½″ (8.9 cm)

Typical knife dimensions: about 88 × 24 × 14 mm (3.46 × 0.94 × 0.55 in).

Designed for small Barlows, pen knives and similar compact two-blade patterns like the Case Small Barlow or GEC #33 Conductor. A touch more substance than the XS, but still a tidy everyday carry.

M – up to 4″ (10.2 cm)

Typical knife dimensions: roughly 96 × 27 × 13 mm (3.78 × 1.06 × 0.51 in).

This covers the heart of traditional pocket knives — Arthur Wright Barlows, A. Wright Sheepfoot Barlows, GEC #34 Conductors, James Brand Waylands, and slim European slipjoints such as the Taschenmesser mit Kapselheber. It’s the size most people carry day-to-day.

L – up to 4½″ (11.4 cm)

Typical knife dimensions: around 110 × 28 × 15 mm (4.33 × 1.10 × 0.59 in).

Ideal for larger hand-filling patterns like the Michael May Barlow, Bear & Son 4″ Barlow, Case Large Trapper or GEC #23 Pioneer. A good fit for those who like a bit more handle to hold onto.

XL – up to 5″ (12.7 cm)

Typical knife dimensions: approximately 125 × 33 × 19 mm (4.92 × 1.30 × 0.75 in).

Made for the full-sized workhorses — Buck 110s, Case Large Stockmans and Folding Hunters. These are the big traditional folders, often belt-carried rather than pocketed.

How to measure

Close your knife and measure from bolster to butt — that’s your closed length. If it falls between sizes or has thick bolsters, choose the next size up for a comfortable fit.

Leather: Black, Blue, Burnt Tan,  Chestnut, Chocolate, Green, Natural* or Red
Stitching: Black, Blue, Brown, Emerald Green, Natural, Olive Green, Red, White or Yellow.
